TURKEY VULTURE
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Cathartes aura
BEHAVIOR

Turkey vultures often congregate, and roost in large communities. During the day, they will spend their time foraging for carrion, seen gliding in the sky as they ride thermals.
DIET

As scavengers, turkey vultures primarily feed on carrion which they detect by using their sharp eyesight and keen sense of smell. A greater abundance of megafauna carrion during the last ice age allowed turkey vultures to grow larger on average than today.

HABITAT
With the most widley distributed range of any new world vulture, only the cold and availability of carrion limit the turkey vulture's range. They are present year-round in La Brea, preferring open environments where they can spot carrion and take flight most easily.
