ART TO ASSET
We aim to provide rigorous reconstructions of ancient life in order to visualize a lost world.

Animals are illustrated from the bones-up: Using what we know about the musculature and external tissues of living related species, we can inform the artistic and anatomical decisions of their extinct counterparts.

Below is a brief summary of the workflow that goes into creating an extinct animal, starting from the skeleton, to the concept art, and finally the 3D model.

Reconstructing an extinct animal always begins with the skeleton, as it provides the base for anatomy and proportions.
2
â–¸
Concept art is made to determine the animal's outer appearance. The concept art may also be used as a reference while sculpting.

After the skeleton is properly positioned, the animal is sculpted over the bones with careful attention to musculature.
4
â–¸
After the sculpture is complete, a retopologized version is created so that the model can bend smoothly when animated.

The retopologized model is then rigged, which provides it with a digital skeleton to pose for the animation process. The rigged model is also ready to be textured and given its hairy appearance!
