HARINGTON'S PONY
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Haringtonhippus francisci

BEHAVIOR

Haringtonhippus stallions were fiercely territorial, guarding their stomping grounds from rivals & bachelor herds. In contrast, the mares were potentially more migratory, traveling through multiple territories within harems or maternal herds based on resource availability.
DIET

Dietary studies from Wyoming and Mexico suggest that the Harington's pony was a mixed-feeding herbivore, with some individuals hypergrazing while others browsed on shrubland vegetation. Dental mesoware analysis from Natural Trap Cave implies Haringtonhippus regularly consumed xeric, abrasive plants.
HABITAT
Fossils of Haringtonhippus have been found across North America, reaching as far as eastern Beringia and as southward as Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Convergently similar to hemionine equids in Eurasia, Harington's pony likely roamed across alpine tundras, temperate grasslands, and arid steppes.
